Introduction to IntelliTools Classroom Suite

What is it?

Classroom Suite v.4 is a unique Response to Intervention tool that combines the power of direct instruction within a flexible tool environment to help students in grades Pre-K through 5 achieve mastery in reading, writing and math. Classroom Suite provides students with explicit instruction, constructive practice and embedded assessments. Classroom Suite includes research-based activity templates that can be used out-of-the-box, or easily customized to meet targeted needs.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is designed for educators, SLPs, OTs, AT specialists, paraprofessionals and parents who are new to (or have limited experience with) Classroom Suite v.4.

Workshop Prerequisites

  • Familiarity with opening, editing and saving files in a computer operating system.

Goal

The goal of the Foundation Workshop for Classroom Suite v.4 is to enable educators to understand how to use Classroom Suite to teach early concepts, reading, writing, and math to students struggling due to learning difficulties or access issues.

Learning Outcomes

  • Given a template, the participants will be able to create a reading or math activity correlated to standards or district curriculum.
  • Participants will be able to sequence activities to scaffold the process of learning in reading, writing, and math.
  • Participants will be able to integrate Classroom Suite activities into their daily classroom environment.
  • Participants will identify the learning strategies incorporated into Classroom Suite and understand how these strategies will help their students have a successful learning experience and achieve higher student outcomes.

Introduction to Overlay Maker 3
Learn to create overlays to provide access to IntelliTools Classroom Suite and other software programs. Learn how to modify an overlay for individual preferences, such as size or color of keys. Learn how to personalize the IntelliKeys settings for specific access needs. Make Overlay Maker 3 your accessibility center, connecting you to IntelliTools Classroom Suite, Boardmaker 5 symbol libraries, the DynaVox 4, and any software program with keyboard access such as Adobe Reader®.

Goal:

To demonstrate the advantages of using Overlay Maker 3 and IntelliKeys to easily and effectively provide access to the computer for children and adults.

Key Topics

  1. Identifying key features of IntelliKeys that support different access needs.
  2. Developing confidence in creating and modifying overlays in Overlay Maker 3.
  3. Understanding how IntelliTools Classroom Suite and Overlay Maker 3 interface to provide access to curriculum for all students.

Participants will:

  1. Explore the pre-made Activity Kits that ship with Overlay Maker 3.
  2. Learn how to create and modify overlays using IntelliTools Classroom Suite and Overlay Maker 3.
  3. Practice using overlays and switches to provide access to software programs.
  4. Learn how to adjust the settings in IntelliKeys to meet a variety of access needs.

Outcomes:

  1. Participants will be able to independently navigate Overlay Maker 3 - open overlays, use overlays with activities, and print overlays.
  2. Participants will be able to identify 3 settings on IntelliKeys and how these settings can provide a solution for different access scenarios.
  3. Participants will be able to create and modify a simple overlay.

Target Audience:
Teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, parents, and others who work with students with learning, physical, or cognitive disabilities and students who are struggling to make AYP. Beginning level users of Overlay Maker 3.

Each Participant will receive:

Early Childhood, Early Learning, and Easy Switch
The Early Childhood - Low Incidence Conference is devoted to exploring solutions for students who are PreK-1st grade and those who have significant physical or cognitive disabilities. Special attention will be placed on using IntelliTools Classroom Suite to provide access to early learning concepts in math and language arts for these students. Participants will explore assessment, scanning strategies, cause-and-effect activities, making the most of digital graphics and recorded sounds, and templates designed for simple and quick authoring.

Goal:
To demonstrate the advantages of using IntelliTools Classroom Suite to easily and effectively meet the needs of early learners and cognitively delayed students in your district.

Key Topics

  1. Identifying key features of IntelliTools Classroom Suite that support differentiated learning styles in students who are PreK-1st grade, students who use scanning as their access method, and students who have significant cognitive disabilities.
  2. Developing confidence in authoring with IntelliTools Classroom Suite to meet curricular and IEP goals.
  3. Understanding how to use overlays, switches, and the IntelliKeys to provide alternative access to software for students.

Participants will:

  1. Become comfortable with the new Early Learning and Easy Switch activities in IntelliTools Classroom Suite.
  2. Learn the basic authoring skills needed to use templates to teach number concepts, beginning writing skills, effective switch use, basic colors, new vocabulary, and comprehension.
  3. Practice using overlays and switches to provide access to early concepts for students.
  4. Explore the assessment features built into IntelliTools Classroom Suite to effectively track and demonstrate student progress.

Outcomes:

  1. Participants will be able to independently navigate IntelliTools Classroom Suite to find the resources designed to meet the needs of the early learner.
  2. Participants will be able to identify 3 templates designed to address the differentiated learning styles of the early learner.
  3. Participants will be able to scaffold the early concepts learning process and switch skills for students.
  4. Participants will be able to assign work to students and generate progress reports.

Use your IntelliKeys to create access to digital cameras, playing and composing music, and to run programs from other software companies. Explore alternative ways to access IntelliTools Classroom Suite, including a new focus on switch access. Bring IntelliTools Classroom Suite together with all the tools in your toolbox from Boardmaker to AlphaSmart and more. Bring your ideas and step into a whole new world of solutions and possibilities.

Workshop Prerequisite:
Prior attendance at an Introduction to IntelliTools Classroom Suite workshop and Introduction to Overlay Maker 3 workshop is required in order to participate in this workshop.

Goal:
To become comfortable with using the more advanced features of IntelliTools Classroom Suite, Overlay Maker 3 and IntelliKeys to empower and engage students in learning.

Key Topics

  1. Developing confidence in using advanced features of IntelliTools Classroom Suite and Overlay Maker 3 to engage students in learning.
  2. Understanding how to create access to digital cameras and music software for IntelliKeys users.
  3. Identifying key teaching strategies and templates to use when teaching language arts and math.

Participants will:

  1. Explore advanced applications for IntelliMation.
  2. Create leveled overlays using Overlay Maker 3.
  3. Learn new strategies and use new templates to teach writing, work with foreign languages, money and phonics.
  4. Learn to create accessible activities for students with hearing impairments.
  5. Work with editing sounds and video.

Outcomes:

  1. Participants will use 3 new templates and teaching strategies to teach math or language arts.
  2. Participants will be able to use 3 advanced features of IntelliTools Classroom Suite or Overlay Maker 3.
  3. Participants will be able to create access to digital cameras, playing and composing music, and use IntelliKeys to run other software programs.

Target Audience:
Teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, parents, and others who work with students with learning, physical, or cognitive disabilities and students who are struggling to make AYP. Intermediate level users of IntelliTools Classroom Suite and Overlay Maker 3.

IntelliBraille
IntelliBraille, used with IntelliTools Classroom Suite, Overlay Maker 3, and IntelliKeys, is one of the few educational software programs for blind students. It contains over 115 activities, all accessible for Braille and low vision students. The program includes 16 lessons on the Literary Braille Code, beginning with the alphabet and proceeding through all contractions and five lessons on the Dolch Words (including pre-primer, primer, first, second, and third grade).  Several activities, such as Nature and Vehicles, have been developed for young congenitally blind children. Participants will also learn how to create their own activities to provide access for blind and low vision students.

Goal: 
To demonstrate access to curriculum for blind and low vision students using IntelliTools Classroom Suite, Overlay Maker, IntelliKeys, and IntelliBraille.

Key Topics

  1. Identifying and using the basic keystrokes needed to navigate text and the other accessibility features built into IntelliTools Classroom Suite.
  2. Developing confidence in using the Braille curriculum activities included on the IntelliBraille CD.
  3. Understanding how to Braille and use the overlays included in file format on the IntelliBraille CD.

Participants will:

  1. Learn how to use the pre-made Braille activities to teach reading, writing, and math.
  2. Investigate the powerful accessibility tools built into IntelliTools Classroom Suite.
  3. Create activities specific to the needs of their blind and visually impaired students including creating orientation and mobility maps and beginning talking stories.
  4. Use the Braille activities with the Literary Braille Code and the Dolch Words.

Outcomes:

  1. Participants will be able to identify at least 5 accessibility tools of IntelliTools Classroom Suite.
  2. Participants will be able to independently navigate and use the activities and overlays found on the IntelliBraille CD.
  3. Participants will be able to author a new activity designed to address the specific learning styles and access needs of their students.

Target Audience:
Teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, parents, and others who work with students with students with visual impairments. Beginning level users of IntelliTools Classroom Suite and Overlay Maker 3.

Each Participant will receive:

Teaching Literacy Through IntelliTools Classroom Suite
IntelliTools Classroom Suite includes many activities and templates that address the needs of the struggling reader and writer. This workshop will take a look at the writing activities that support word choice, grammar, fluency, and author's voice. Teachers will have an opportunity to use and create word study activities including phonics, rhyming and initial letters. You'll also explore simple reading activities that help students independently select stories which are easy to read with fluency. Guided reading before, during, and after teacher-directed activities will lead the student to use strategies that help them become better readers. Activities created will use the features of IntelliTools Classroom Suite to make learning fun.

Goal:  
To learn how to find, use, and modify the many activities and templates that meet the literacy needs of a wide variety of students.

Key Topics

  1. Exploring the literacy resources included in IntelliTools Classroom Suite.
  2. Developing confidence in using the features of IntelliTools Classroom Suite that support struggling students to improve their reading skills.
  3. Identifying key teaching strategies to create guided reading activities to promote independence.

Participants will:

  1. Explore and create writing activities that support word choice, grammar, fluency, and author's voice.
  2. Create word study activities.
  3. Learn teaching strategies for supporting independent reading.
  4. Create access to reading for students with a wide range of learning, cognitive, or physical disabilities.

Outcomes:

  1. Participants will be able to identify at least 5 features of IntelliTools Classroom Suite that support struggling readers.
  2. Participants will be able to independently navigate and use the activities and templates to create word study and writing activities.
  3. Participants will be able to author an activity designed to address the specific learning styles and reading levels of their students.

Target Audience:
Teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, parents, and others who work with students with learning, physical, or cognitive disabilities and students who are struggling to make AYP. Beginning level users of IntelliTools Classroom Suite and Overlay Maker 3.

Each Participant will receive:

Creating Accessible Books with IntelliTools Classroom Suite 
IntelliTools Classroom Suite includes several templates which provide easy authoring opportunities for teachers and students to create accessible books to practice and support reading. This workshop will look at templates specifically designed to include previously scanned book pages, graphics, sounds, and movies. Books may be created to support any curriculum content area, social stories, or provide reading practice. Participants will be given sample books, photographs and QuickTime movie samplers to begin guided practice. They may bring digital files for further independent practice or work with media included with IntelliTools Classroom Suite.

Goal:  
To learn how to use and modify IntelliTools Classroom Suite templates to support reading in a wide range of curriculum content for students.

Key Topics

  1. Exploring the Make a Book activities and templates in IntelliTools Classroom Suite.
  2. Developing strategies for supported reading while authoring book templates.
  3. Identifying and developing multimedia skills to enhance templates with digital media.

Participants will:

  1. Author books that support reading in a variety of different curriculum content areas.
  2. Import actual scanned book pages to create a book within IntelliTools Classroom Suite.
  3. Add digital photographs and movies to enhance book content.
  4. Add a variety of sounds to enhance book content.

Outcomes:

  1. Participants will be able to create accessible books in at least 3 templates in IntelliTools Classroom Suite.
  2. Participants will be able to construct books for a variety of curriculum content areas and supported reading.
  3. Participants will be able to insert scanned book pages, photographs, sounds, and movies.

Target Audience:
Teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, parents, and others who work with students with learning, physical, or cognitive disabilities and students who need supported reading activities. Intermediate level users of IntelliTools Classroom Suite.

Each Participant will receive:
