Classroom Suite

Classroom Suite

Classroom Suite 4Classroom Suite is a unique software intervention tool developed based upon the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) that combines two educational paradigms—systematic, explicit instruction and flexible creativity tools—Teachers have control over specific learning objectives, allowing differentiated instruction for individuals or groups to help students in grades PreK-5 achieve mastery in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Classroom Suite Primary Skills BuildersClassroom Suite Primary Skills Builders templates allow educators to create curriculum-aligned learning and accessible assessment activities.

Classroom Suite Alternative Access KitClassroom Suite Alternative Access Kit provides the tools educators need to quickly get up and running with overlays and switch access to Classroom Suite.

Classroom Suite can be used for:

  • Supplemental Instruction
  • Response to Intervention - a Tier 2 or Tier 3 intervention solution
  • Curriculum Support - for those students who struggle with either cognitive or physical disabilities

A Response to Intervention (RtI) Tool

A perfect Tier 2 and Tier 3 solution. As a supplement to core curriculum, Classroom Suite provides basic concept building and reinforcement with the ability to create custom units and activities. As an intensive intervention tool, Classroom Suite provides more than 4,000 activities created by teachers and therapists that support foundation skills, templates that address early learning skills, and curriculum content from other curriculum developers delivered through Classroom Suite.

Individualized, Direct Instruction

Classroom Suite's primary focus is to support and reinforce beginning literacy, writing and number sense. Out-of-the-box lessons incorporate a system of "model, practice, apply" to ensure that your students understand each educational objective. Students receive practice with strategic feedback and are immediately assessed to determine whether to move on to another activity or to receive additional practice.

Individualized, direct instruction

Support for English Language Learners

For students whose primary language is not English, reading, writing, and literacy skills must be addressed as quickly as possible so that effective instructional practices can be developed. Non-English-speaking students are not only beginning English Language Learners but beginning readers and writers as well. Classroom Suite provides support for bilingual teaching through the customizable instructions (auditory prompts) which can be simply recorded in any language by the teacher.

Accessibility

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) mandates that all curriculum is made accessible not only to students with a variety of learning styles but also to students who, due to physical, cognitive, or visual disabilities need alternative access to the computer. Section 508 requires that technology is accessible to people with disabilities. Classroom Suite has built in alternative access through IntelliKeys and switch scanning and therefore is UDL and 508 compliant. Classroom Suite is also perfect for whole group instruction and works ideally with all interactive whiteboards.

Most Classroom Suite activities work with the click of a non-screen button making the program uniquely ideal for use with interactive white boards. Students can write stories, operate mathematics manipulatives, and create animations all by simply touching the whiteboard with their finger.

Research Base

Classroom Suite is anchored in solid research, including the National Reading Panel, the Florida Center for Reading Research, the Center for Literacy and Disability Studies, the National Math Panel, and CAST (Center for Applied Special Technology)

Classroom Suite development has been funded in part by the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development under a Small Business Innovations Research Grant (SBIR, Phase II, 2R44HD046320-02). This funding supports work with expert math consultants and researchers from the University of Oregon to apply conceptual models and manipulatives to the development of mathematical automaticity for elementary students.

Reading

There are five key areas of Reading addressed in Classroom Suite:

  1. Phonemic Awareness—Sound matching, isolating, segmenting, blending, and manipulating
  2. Phonics—Letter-sound correspondence, high frequency words, major and minor sounds, syllable patterns, compound words, and affixes.
  3. Fluency—Building word, sentence, and paragraph reading fluency.
  4. Vocabulary—Building student vocabulary by creating personal vocabulary notebooks.
  5. Comprehension—Building comprehension through strategic approaches.
Hundreds of reading templates are embedded in Classroom Suite with an additional 26 hours of instruction available through Classroom Suite ReadingTutor.

Writing

The scaffolded writing instruction integrated into Classroom Suite helps students to both master the stages of the writing process (brainstorming, organizing, drafting, editing, publishing) as well as have opportunities to learn to write in various genres. All writing activities in Classroom Suite include access to word prediction and spell check. Classroom Suite also supports students who struggle with the large number of keys on a standard computer keyboard by building in both a QWERTY and ABC on-screen keyboard layout.

Mathematics

The math interactions in Classroom Suite are based upon research in mathematical models and automaticity. Manipulative models and computational sequences reflect the latest research from the National Science Foundation, and NCTM. Classroom Suite presents math concepts through Practice and Challenge activities that teach the use of manipulatives to solve problems, move the student toward automaticity through timed problem solving, and assess progress.

There are six key areas of mathematics addressed in Classroom Suite:

  1. Early Math Concepts—Counting, sorting, and patterns.
  2. Addition and Subtraction—Problems are presented using multiple models to teach the basic concept. Students use manipulative models to learn strategies in solving problems with large numbers. Activities are sequenced in order of difficulty.
  3. Multiplication and Division—Commutative and distributive properties.
  4. Place Value—Understanding how to build numbers and regrouping.
  5. Fractions—Using manipulatives to create fractions, addition and subtraction of fractions with common denominators.
  6. Decimals—Using manipulatives to create decimals, addition and subtraction of decimals to the hundredths.
Hundreds of mathematics templates are embedded in Classroom Suite with an additional 12 hours of instruction available through Classroom Suite MathTutor.

Early Learning

Classroom Suite includes engaging early learning activities for emergent learners. These teach the following basics skills:

  1. Easy Explore—Colors, numbers, sizes, movements, sentence and vocabulary building.
  2. Simple Testing—2 choice answers allow for skill assessments.
  3. Errorless Writing—Students develop reading and writing fluency in a word bank activity.
  4. Puzzles—A simple cause and effect activity for engaging switch users.
  5. Left Right—Switch training for student graduating to using two switches.

Creativity Tools

The Creativity Tools serve multiple purposes. They can be used by the student to create multimedia presentations and provide writing support. They can be used by the Teacher to create activities from scratch rather than customizing an existing template. These Tools do not contain curriculum content.
