INTELLITOOLS INC. TO RECEIVE PRESTIGIOUS TIBBETTS AWARD IN WASHINGTON CEREMONY

Petaluma, California, September 17, 2002 Ā IntelliToolsÂ, Inc. (www.intellitools.com), for over 20 years the pioneer in learning solutions for the diverse classroom, has been recognized with the 2002 Tibbetts Award from the Small Business Administrationęs Small Business Innovation Research program. IntelliToolsę co-founder Arjan Khalsa will accept the award at a national ceremony on Capitol Hill October 2, 2002.

The Tibbetts Award is a prestigious national award made to small firms, projects, organizations and individuals judged to exemplify the best in SBIR achievement, and recognizes the economic impact of a companyęs technological innovation, its business achievement and effective collaborations with government agencies, and its demonstrated state and regional impact.

"We are delighted to be recognized by the SBIR, whose support has helped IntelliTools expand its product offering and publish award-winning reading software for a broad range of elementary school students," noted Arjan Khalsa, IntelliTools co-founder and a nationally recognized education leader.

IntelliTools Reading: Balanced Literacy pioneers the use of universal design and assistive technology to deliver a balanced, full-year supplemental reading program for emerging readers. Developed with funding through the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development at the National Institutes of Health, the software is consistent with the Reading First initiative and No Child Left Behind Act.

SBIR support for Balanced Literacy has additionally propelled IntelliTools to becoming a provider of products for mainstream educational markets, including the fully inclusive classroom. Reading experts and coordinators are studying the effectiveness of Balanced Literacy for a broad student population and finding it effective with many struggling readers. IntelliTools recently developed a network version of Balanced Literacy that has enormous potential throughout elementary education.

The Tibbetts Awards program, launched in 1996, is named for Roland Tibbetts, acknowledged as the father of the Small Business Innovations Research (SBIR) program. IntelliTools, Inc. was honored with a Tibbetts Award in the programęs inaugural year.
