INTELLITOOLS READING: BALANCED LITERACY WINS TECHNOLOGY & LEARNING AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
Petaluma, California, October 26, 2002 – IntelliTools®, Inc. (www.intellitools.com), for over 20 years the pioneer in learning solutions for the diverse classroom, today announced that its IntelliTools Reading: Balanced Literacy has won a 2001 Technology & Learning Award of Excellence in two categories: in both Language Arts and in Special Education.
IntelliTools Reading: Balanced Literacy is a nine-unit program providing a full year of literacy instruction at a first-grade skill level for beginning readers. Using a balanced approach, the program integrates guided reading, supported writing, and word study or phonics activities.
"Our judges welcomed the variety of ways the program introduces language and gives students many different approaches to beginning literacy," noted the Technology & Learning staff. Judges also liked the program’s well paced lessons and activities that correlate to any early reading curriculum, with word recognition and phonics exercises appropriate for all beginning readers. And judges noted that its multi-modal features, such as song, print, enlarged text, and switch access made this an equally suitable choice for special needs users.
Balanced Literacy’s lessons are build around animal themes that engage students in a program designed to support and supplement their classroom language arts curriculum. It correlates to NETS Standards for Students (ISTE Standards), TESOL (ESL), as well as to ELA Standards for selected states. Available for Macintosh or Windows users, Balanced Literacy is also fully accessible for standard keyboard and mouse users as well as IntelliKeys and switch users.
